Remember when we were lost at sea? We would look at the bright night sky. Thinking of what we could be What we could be, How to spend our lives. "It's been a while hasn't it, Diamondkit?"
Duskjump sat up late in the SkyClan camp, sitting right in the middle and staring up through a circle of trees to the sky awaiting beyond. StarClan was looking back at him, and in each glittering little speck he saw the eyes of all of the warriors who had ever lived, all focused on him. His dusty green eyes scanned the painted canvas, taking in the views of rich dark purple velvet strewn across an ebony table and dusted with the ghosts of the world. His young sister was somewhere up there, he hoped, he knew, he prayed. As one of the few who survived MoonClan's descent into the unknown, he had lost his sister along the way. He could never forget the pain on Freefall's face when he saw only one of his kits return, knowing he would ever see the other again.
"...I'm so sorry."
Remember when we had nothing left? We were strung out in the cold Holding on, trying to save our breath Trying to save our breath We would not let go Whoa Through the good, through the bad and ugly Whoa We'll conquer a n y t h i n g
He smiled--oh, how he smiled! Smiled like nothing was wrong, like he was the happiest cat in the world. He smiled like his sister would remember his smile. Bright as they trudged through the winter's freshly fallen snow, beamed like the sun coming from a snow cloud, painted upon his face like picturesque death that followed at the clan's heels. He smiled for her, believed in her, even though inside he was fragile as ice and scared as the late birds that rushed through the snow only to fall to the ground, eventually, and welcome the cold. Much like she did, he thought.
"I miss you. Dad does too. I hope you like it up there though. Dad may not believe in StarClan, but I'll believe enough for the both of us. How's that sound?"
'Cause one day we're gonna come back And laugh at it all One day we'll look at the past With love, love One day we're gonna come back And relive those thoughts One day we'll look at the past With love, love With love, love
That smiled appeared again and he stood up, his fluffy tail trailing across the ground as he strode across the clearing to Scorchstar's den. Poking his head inside, he called out quietly.
"Scorchstar, can we go hunting? I know it's late, but I hear the prey calling!" He forced a small chuckle. "'Scorchstar, Duskjump, come get us!' is what they're saying. Can't you hear them? C'mon, let's go!"
In reality Duskjump was at that breaking point again. He wanted company, and although he had lived with SkyClan for moons now, he trusted no one but the only cat his father trusted: Scorchstar himself. Like a leech he clung to the leader for comfort, always the first to volunteer for patrols with him, always the last to remain in the camp until he had gone to his den. Duskjump needed someone to cling to, after all. He did not have his sister with him to lean on anymore, and his father was still in MoonClan, quietly suffering until the day he snapped. Insomnia drove Duskjump to pace about the clearing, impatient and eager to leave for a while. If he closed his eyes and pretended, he could pretend that he was hunting for Diamondkit again.
Remember down in the forest heart We were lost, losing hope and faith We put our trust in counting s t a r s We were counting s t a r s Trying to find our way
Remember up on the mountain top Looking out on the rocks below Thanking God, will we never stop We will never stop No we won't let go
"Are you hungry, sis?" He whispered, his gaze at the ground. "...I'll get you something good. The prey's coming out again. I won't let you starve anymore."
[ Open to all SkyClan cats! ]

((this is four months late but im still gonna reply sorry im trash))
Scorchstar arched his back luxuriously. "It's a lovely night for a hunt. I'll be out in a heartbeat." He rapidly smoothed his fur, erasing all evidence of his rest on his body. The broad-shouldered tom padded out of his den, eyes narrowing in the golden sunlight, just on the threshold of turning a brilliant orange. His ears strained to listen as Duskjump murmured inaudibly. Bemused, the leader stepped forward. "Sorry, what was that?"

"Hm? Nothing, Scorchstar, I said nothing." He hadn't expected Scorchstar to return so quickly, or to hear his quiet promise, and he turned to look up at his leader with an innocent expression. "Let's go, yes! I'm just dying for something to do!" Skipping a circle around Scorchstar like a kit invigorated by the prospect of playtime, he bounded towards the entrance of camp. Landing on one forepaw he used his momentum to do an about-face, commenting, "I'm going to catch the biggest bird out there! Maybe an eagle!"
( I too, am trash )

((i am the captain of team late replies))
The tom swiftly followed Duskjump, worry plaguing his mind. His companion seemed rather... off, to say the least. However, Scorchstar held his tongue, refusing to jump to conclusions. Instead, he simply behaved as though he didn't sense anything out of the ordinary, deciding to discreetly observe for any more signs of unusual actions. He strode along, paws moving at a hasty pace. Feeling tension beginning to rise, he broke the uneasy silence. "So, Duskjump," he began awkwardly. "How have you been recently?" Though he displayed no signs of concern physically, Scorchstar felt his stomach knot.

"How have I been, sir?" The question caused the warrior to pause, slowing his pace until he could fall in just behind Scorchstar, intending to use the new order to mull over his thoughts. His ears twitched, and the golden tom was pensive for a moment, prolonging the silence even more until he shook his head. Bunching the muscles in his hind legs, he sprang forward to walk alongside Scorchstar again, unable to keep still even despite his heavy thoughts.
"Truth be told, I miss my sister," he said simply. "She would have loved SkyClan. I wonder, do MoonClan born cats go to StarClan? I like to think they do. Diamondkit deserves to be happy." Even as he spoke with a smile there was a bitter sadness behind his words, as memories of his little sister flooded back into mind. "Maybe I'll even go there some day, if I'm a good, decent warrior to make up for my birth. I want to see her again and apologize." It was his duty to protect her after all, and for all his best efforts she still slipped away.

Scorchstar quietly listened to Duskjump's response, his gaze glimmering with empathy. "Duskjump," he began softly, "you are more than worthy of joining StarClan when your time comes. I have not a single doubt about this." The tabby tom shifted his eyes in front of him, continuing after a short pause. "And I do believe that cats of a good heart may enter the realm of StarClan, regardless of their former clan. To my knowledge, your sister has done no wrong; fate is not so injust to put an innocent kit in a place designated for true villains."
The leader stopped, and turned to face his companion. "I am truly sorry for your loss. But I know you, Duskjump. You are a courageous, loyal warrior, and you have enough strong to continue forth. Keep your sister in your heart, but don't lose yourself in the past." He then padded forward steadily, as if to subtly demonstrate his advice. He hoped he had helped the warrior ease his grief, even a little.
